Gloria Ferrer’s New Wine Country Visitors Center Sparkles With Light

Nearly 30 years after its original opening and 150 years after the Ferrer family first produced Spain’s most famous sparkling wine, Cava, Gloria Ferrer re-opens its doors to a more modern, spacious, and light-filled visitors center without losing any of its familial Catalan farmhouse charm.

One of the major goals for the remodel, designed by Valley Architects, was to introduce more light into the interior space which was marked by dark wood counters and seating, earthen floor tiles, and a central fireplace alcove. The new Visitors Center is now flooded with light from new windows that provide beautiful views of the Carneros landscape and San Pablo Bay beyond. The fireplace alcove was also removed and replaced with windows to create a cleaner look and flow indoors and out. Overall, the square footage was increased by nearly a third to provide a more elegant sense of spaciousness and greater room for private guest experiences.

We love the expansive Vista Terrace which epitomizes the Mediterranean lifestyle. Now double the size, the patio has well-defined spaces under the large shaded pergola and separate areas for club members. Whether indoors or out on the patio, guests can sip on refreshing glasses of Gloria Ferrer bubbly by-the-glass, in flights, or by-the-bottle. The Ferrer family, which makes Spanish Cava and other sparkling wines around the world, is one of the world’s largest producers of sparkling wine made in the distinctive traditional method.

To accompany their sparkling wines, Gloria Ferrer has expanded their offerings of nibbles such as local or Spanish cheese selections and a charcuterie plate.

In addition to a la carte offerings, Gloria Ferrer offers several private guest experiences including the food and wine “Bubbles & Bites Pairing Tour” ($60 per person) which takes place in the new private room. They also offer private production and tasting tours ($20 to $30 per person) with advance reservation, as well as daily tours ($20 per person) which can be booked on a same-day basis. Check the website for details.

While there, make sure to check out Gloria Ferrer’s personal collection of sparkling wine glasses, an endeavor she began in 1956 when, one night, her father slipped away from a dinner in Venice to purchase an exquisite red Murano crystal glass for her. Since then, she’s collected one-of-a-kind glassware from around the world, including a 3rd Cent. Persian stem. In the Sonoma location, about 100 of the total collection exceeding 2,000 glasses are displayed. Gloria’s passion for glassware grew as she observed the transformation of organic materials, through heat and craftsmanship, into something beautiful, a process similar to the art of making fine wine.
