Dining Design Diary: Michael Voltaggio's ink.

Here it is at last, Top Chef winner Michael Voltaggio's long awaited ink., set to open tomorrow night in Los Angeles. While Angelenos have been enjoying Voltaggio's sandwiches next door at the more casual ink.sack for the last couple of months, this is his more upscale venture in fine dining (he previously helmed the stoves at The Bazaar and The Dining Room in The Langham in Pasadena.

The dining room seats 60 plus a private room for ten that features art by Chuck Close and Tilo Baumgartel. The silhouette of steak knives was done by Matthew Brannon.

The space is meant to be both warm and industrial, a signature look of Clifford Fong of Galerie Half who specializes in 20th Century architectural salvage and art. Fong worked with Voltaggio to source local craftsmen for design pieces. The Marshall Group served as the restaurant's contractor, having worked on a number of other restaurant projects like Comme Ca and Cafe Habana.
