Dining Design Diary: Go Inside San Diego's Underbelly

San Diego’s Little Italy is having a moment, and it has nothing to do with pizza.

From the team behind Craft & Commerce—the hip eatery that inspires nostalgia for the pre-iPad era—comes UnderBelly, a Japanese-style restaurant pairing bowls of ramen with craft beers.

The space, which features a giant portrait of Mao Zedong made out of succulents, was created by a team that includes Shepard Fairey’s Studio Number One, and is designed to support slurping and socializing; 750 W. Fir St., San Diego, godblessunderbelly.com.
